Margaret MacAulay, PhD, is a recent graduate from SFU’s School of Communication. Her dissertation research was a qualitative study exploring the challenges and opportunities that new technologies such as the Internet and biomedicine bring for gay men and their HIV prevention needs. Interested in LGBTQ studies, gender/sexuality, public health, and new media, Margaret will be leading SARAVYC’s portion of Growing Up with Media project as a qualitative research postdoctoral fellow. Growing Up with Media is a collaboration with the Center for Innovative Public Health. In this role, she will be interviewing sexual and gender minority (SGM) and non-SGM youth and using the Minority Stress Model to better understand the contextual factors shaping sexual harassment and violence. She brings her media studies perspective to SARAVYC and is excited to work with an interdisciplinary team to inform health policy for LGBTQ youth.
