Margaret MacAulay, PhD
Former Postdoctoral Fellow
Margaret MacAulay, PhD, graduated from SFU’s School of Communication. Her dissertation research was a qualitative study exploring the challenges and opportunities that new technologies such as the Internet and biomedicine bring for gay men and their HIV prevention needs. Interested in LGBTQ studies, gender/sexuality, public health, and new media, Margaret led SARAVYC’s portion of the Growing Up with Media project as a qualitative research postdoctoral fellow. Growing Up with Media is a collaboration with the Center for Innovative Public Health. In this role, she interviewed sexual and gender minority (SGM) and non-SGM youth and used the Minority Stress Model to better understand the contextual factors shaping sexual harassment and violence. She hopes that such research can help inform health and educational policy to better support LGBTQ youth.
