Hannah Sullivan Facknitz (they/them/Mx.) is the Communications and Community Relations Manager of SARAVYC, joining the team in January 2022. They hold a Bachelor of Arts in history, Arabic language, & humanitarian affairs (with distinction ’18) from James Madison University and a Master of Arts in history (history of medicine) from the University of British Columbia (’23). In 2019, Hannah won the J. William Fulbright Scholarship to study in Canada where their research has probed the relationship between eugenics and settler colonialism. Now, they work full time as a professional designer, knowledge translation expert, and accessibility consultant. They are a member of the City of Vancouver Accessibility Committee, an Accessibility Accelerator for Xenia Concerts, and the accessibility lead for Kickstart Disability Arts & Culture. In their (limited) spare time, they are an active poet, novelist, and essayist published in places like Teen Vogue and elsewhere. They currently reside on the stolen, occupied territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, səlilwətaɬ, and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh peoples, uninvited as their ancestors were before them and believe repair, healing, and reconciliation should be our highest aspirations.

If you have concerns about the website, social media, or any other SARAVYC communications, Hannah is the main point of contact for media inquiries and other communication needs. They can be contacted directly or reached through the SARAVYC email (saravyc@nursing.ubc.ca).
